On March 3, 2016, the United Community Center and Bruce-Guadalupe Community School were very honored to host President Barack Obama as he congratulated Milwaukee for winning the White House's "Healthy Communities Challenge" for making significant gains in enrolling Milwaukee residents in health coverage.
It was an exciting week preparing for his visit and helping to host the White House for this special event. The Latino Arts Strings Program had the honor of playing in the pre-program and two 8th graders recited the Pledge of Allegiance as part of the event.
With invitations handled by the White House, limited UCC Board, friends, and staff were able to attend, and others served as volunteers at the event. BGCS 8th graders were able to watch the speech in person as well.
The United Community Center was proud to be chosen for such an important visitor!
