2011 Year in ReviewA Year in Review; Join Us in 2012

As the year draws to a close we look to the success of 2011 and anticipate the year to come. We are thankful for the many supporters that allow us to grow to meet the needs of our community, and we continue to reach out to a broader audience to share in what we are doing.

Some of our 2011 highlights, many of which are covered in our January-April 2012 newsletter include:

  • Completion of the new UCC Senior Center at Olga Village
  • 37 new senior apartments at Olga Village welcome new residents to UCC’s campus
  • Increase in average daily client attendance at the Adult Day Center from 45 to 70
  • Awarded a pilot project grant with the Medical College of Wisconsin to help improve the health of caregivers of those suffering from Alzheimer’s or dementia related illness
  • Highest Bruce-Guadalupe Community School enrollment ever at 957 students
  • 78% of alumni attending either a 2 or 4 year higher education institution
  • Sixty-eight 8th grade students take the Explore Test for high school placement, an early indication of later success of the ACT test
  • Continual advancements and adjustments to BGCS curriculum to ensure students are challenged and can succeed
  • Completion of three health-education publications “Hope for Health” fotonovelas in conjunction with the Medical College of Wisconsin and the start of a new Telenovela health education video

On a sad note, this year also saw the passing of two of UCC’s founding board members and major supporters, Ted Friedlander and Jack Ladky. Both were instrumental in raising millions of dollars to help grow and build UCC, and their dedication, commitment and passion will forever be remembered and cherished!

As you read about what UCC accomplished in 2011 in our January-April 2012 newsletter, we hope something will spark your interest, and you will consider joining us 2012 to better serve the community and provide bright futures for our families and students!
