Denise, Pre-College Program
Denise graduated from Bruce-Guadalupe Middle School in 2017 and is currently a senior at Brookfield Academy. Throughout the years, Denise has been involved in many programs such as the Latino Arts Strings Program, Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC), Youth Empowered to Succeed (YES), PASOS, and many others. Her family and her life experiences have also played a major role in the person she is today.
Her experience in the YES program through UCC and Marquette has provided Denise with opportunities to engage with college mentors that shared their about high school and college experiences. Denise took advantage of this opportunity to learn from others’ experiences and now other students ask her the same questions she used to ask. She truly is a role model for others. One of the coordinators of the YES program describes Denise as the “most composed and thoughtful peer mediator.”
Recently, Denise was awarded as a Wall of Fame Student at UCC to recognize her hard work and determination. Denise is hoping to continue learning more about people on a global scale and looks forward to attending college to pursue a degree in International Relations and Global Studies. Denise strives to understand global issues and convert her understanding into action in order to, “make the world a better place one person at a time.”
