One-Time Opportunities for Small Groups

*Please note: Volunteer groups will be asked to provide supplies for crafts, prizes or help develop activities. Ideally groups are of 5-15 depending on the event. All volunteers must complete waiver in advance. For one-time events we need at least two weeks' notice to coordinate with program teams. 

  • Learning Leaders for Preschool Theme Days
    • Info: Showcase our learning themes in a unique way that brings in a fun and new perspective for our students. Lead a special activity or craft tied to a theme, or even an age-appropriate book to read in the classroom. Groups of 8-10 volunteers preferred. 
    • Timing: 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Dates based on availability
Ongoing Opportunities for Individual Volunteers


Please Note: All ongoing volunteers must complete the Volunteer Application and background check process. We need at least 7-14 days to organize a volunteer placement which will start after all application materials are received. 

After School Tutors

  • Info: Bruce-Guadalupe Community School is seeking volunteers who wish to do small group tutoring for grades 1-5 in math or reading and assist after school staff with other tasks including prepping materials and handing out snacks.
  • Timing: Monday - Thursday 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Coaching Assistant

  • Info: If you are passionate about sports and want to make a positive impact on our students, volunteer to be a coaching assistant! UCC Athletics is looking for volunteers to help with sports practice throughout the fall and spring semesters. Sports include volleyball, soccer, flag football and basketball. 
  • Timing: Monday - Friday 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. and occasional Saturdays 9:00 a.m. - 11: a.m.

Elementary Classroom Helpers

  • Info: Volunteers are needed to assist Elementary classrooms to support teachers and prep in between classes. Tasks include organizing classroom materials and assisting teachers wherever needed so they can spend more time with students.
  • Timing: Monday - Friday 8:15 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Time commitment of one hour or more. Schedule may vary based on class lessons.

Pre-College Programs Tutor

  • Info: Work with young adults! Tutor middle and high school students (BGCS alumni) in all subjects. This is a HIGH NEED opportunity, especially if you are strong in math and science!
  • Timing: Tutoring will take place on Tuesdays from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. every other week beginning in the Fall. 

Preschool Learning Buddies

  • Info: Join our preschool classrooms as a Learning Buddy to participate in regular classroom activities, read, make crafts and more! Age-appropriate books are welcome. 
  • Timing: Flexible dates 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.

Senior Tech Tutors

  • Info: Many older adults struggle to understand technology and benefit from instruction in computer and smartphone basics! Help our seniors by answering their questions so they can stay connected and gain confidence in their skills. *Spanish speakers are required for this opportunity. *
  • Timing: Monday - Thursday 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Wellness Hour with Residential Clients

  • Info: We are seeking a volunteer to lead a wellness hour for adults in our recovery programs. If you are passionate about yoga, mindfulness, and overall health, this is a great opportunity to share your knowledge and provide tools for our clients to take with them in this new chapter of their life.
  • Timing: Commitment of 1 hour once a month. Dates and times based on availability.

Virtual Opportunities & Supply Drives

Virtual volunteering opportunities are a great individual or group project and the perfect opportunity to share your support and be creative as well! 

Donated kits

No - Sew Winter Gear 

  • Bring comfort to our elderly and clients on the journey to recovery by gifting them a handmade warm blanket or accessory. Kits can be found at craft stores, or you may find tutorials readily available on YouTube. We will take as many as you are able to make! There are a variety of options to choose from, including: 

Crochet Flowers

  • Brighten a day with a handmade crochet flower! Whether you are a beginner or a pro at crocheting, making a DIY tutorial for a Crochet Flower would be a fun project and will be a great gift for our elderly clients. 

Heating Pad for Older Adults

  • Heating pads are a great way to alleviate aches, improve circulation and offer comfort during the colder months. This handmade gift is simple to do and will go a long way for our elderly clients! Follow the tutorial for a DIY Heating Pad on YouTube

Weighted Lap Pads/Buddies

  • Weighted lap pads can help calm anxiety and improve focus in children as well as provide comfort for those with sensory needs. Follow a DYI tutorial online for lap pads or lap blankets for inspiration. Be creative! use your imagination to create fun stuffed animal-inspired lap buddies that children will enjoy! Supply Drives: 

  • Car Seat Drive: Help keep our youngest learners safe by donating car seats for our Head Start families! See our Amazon Wish List for more details.
  • Diaper Drive - HIGH NEED: Support our UCC families by donating to our diaper drive! While all contributions are appreciated, we’re especially in need of newborn sizes and sizes 1 and 2.
  • School Supply Drive: Support the next generation of leaders by providing them the supplies they need for a successful year of learning! See our School Supply Flyer with more details or access our Amazon Wish List for our full list.
  • Building a Love of Reading Book Drive: UCC Schools aim to encourage an appreciation of literacy among students of all ages. To do this, we need ample books for children's home libraries as well as our classroom libraries. You can help by donating new or gently used books for ages 3-14. 
    • We kindly ask that books be in good condition and be divided by the following age levels:
      • Early Education (ages 2-5)
      • Early Elementary (ages 6-8)
      • Elementary ((ages 8-11)
      • Middle School (ages 12-14)
    • Most books indicate what grades or ages they can be used for, or this information can be accessible online. For facility in purchasing or for ideas on which books are recommended, see our Amazon Wish List.
